Woke up and figured out that one of the restaurants (really two of them) that I'd read about remotely was only about a 8 minute walk away. Yang's fried dumplings... Time for breakfast!
SUPER GOOD!
Navigated the subway to a foodie walk and cooking class I signed up for...
Got there early so per their recommendation went into a "cake" cafe and had
some tiramisu...
Started the foodie tour about 30 minutes later... Group of 8 of us and the guide.
Started with a dumpling restaurant... somewhat soup dumplings in the shape of ears...
A glass of a mixture of plum, smoked plum and something juice. Very cooling and prepped us for
many things to eat...
Then onto a second restaurant for more friend dumplings like what I got at Yang's, but these were fried on the "folded" part (vs Yang's which was fried on the bottom part)
Pork and also a Pork/Shrimp version..
Then some sweet dessert dumplings...Filled with a sweet sesame paste...
and some won-ton soup dumplings..pork filling
Then onto another place for potstickers!
and shanghai soup dumplings (xiao long bau)
and a type of dumpling stuffed with rice and soy...
Then some dessert bau... Custard Bao (very similar to what I had in Kennedy Town in Hong Kong a year ago)
Then onto cooking class... we learned how to make ha-gow (shrimp dumplings)
All done -- and time was slowly bleeding and melting away...
So I decided to check out a local temple...
and the bye-bye buddah
And had to be careful heading back --
Took a long long nap and then went out to dinner at a hairy crab restaurant...
Some pork filled dumplings to start..
and then onto the main course...
Which I made a mess of! Boom!! Good eating (very Sweet!) but a lot of hard and messy work
After eating I went back to the same market area and bought more fruit and some dessert treats. Also on the way back to the hotel saw a huge line in front of window whose only english said "Pastry" so I stood in line and bought some... Here is the array of my dessert/breakfast treats...
The mandarin oranges (small) are quite good -- already finished yesterday's batch so glad I got more...
