Headed out to the Saturday market, which is located at the end of the skytrain line at the "Mo Chit" stop.
Here's a nice picture of the skytrain approaching while on the NaNa Station platform. You can see the nice "skyline" of the city buildings that the skytrain cuts through.
The "Mo Chit" station was about 11 stations down the line at the far end of the Skytrain line. When we got off we had a real treat in
seeing that the area had quite a bit of park around it and some beautiful trees in full bloom. I assume they were cherry blossom trees, but
either way-- very nice!
Weird Sign on the way down the stairs -- I think I want a slice!
About 100 meter walk down the road was the start of this huge market zone. A grid of about 4-5 across by "very long" streets filled with clothing,
purses, art and food. The saving grace was that this place is so huge that it wasn't "elbow-to-elbow" with people. While still crowded it was tolerable and
there was a little of everything for everyone.
I immediately spotted a vendor on the outskirts of the market with Mango things (mango sticky rice or just plain mango slices). I *had* to get some sliced mango.
Ripe and wonderful!
Further into the market I spotted a little dog!;
Here's a little video of us walking on the outskirts of the market -- inside (in the alley way cross streets) it was much more "cave" like...
Here are some of the food stands on the outskirts of the market place
We were hungry so we sat down for some water and food. In my case I got a bowl of spicy chicken noodle soup. Bob and Shirley got chicken and rice.
I can't resist zooming in on part of the "parts" in my soup! Fresh feet!
After this snack we headed into the 'alleys' of the market place -- really stalls of things to buy as far as the eye could see in any direction
One of four directions --- me just turning around
Another of four directions - I haven't moved, just rotated.A
A third rotation...
and a forth showing where we walked in...
After about another 30 minutes of walking through this zone and ones like it, during which time Shirley bought a few
articles of clothing, I decided I needed another snack. Found an indian stand serving various things rolled up in Naan,
but I just wanted a piece of Naan, which they were happy enough to oblige me on.
Just past the Naan stand I found a vendor selling things like lawn ornaments, but ones that I would like!
Then we hit the jackpot -- at least food wise!
So many choices, and it was somewhat hot. So I deferred briefly and got some Coconut Ice Cream!
Then we picked up some fried chicken, sat down at a table and ordered some drinks and some Pad Thai
After this meal we walked around more. Saw some interesting things: Gongs, Giant Shrimp, and Cat-Shirts
Bob and I found a belt vendor and we bought belts, although later I discovered that mine wasn't holding from a latch point of view -- might try and get it fixed tomorrow or will just buy another
one (they were only about $9 USD).
Before leaving we also saw another "resting" local:
(he says - don't bother me, its hot and I'm resting!)
one final stand -- had to get another coconut ice cream
Headed back to the hotel and took a shower and a nap. It was really hot and humid out!
Late afternoon I had a snack of the leftovers from yesterdays lunch -- really good rice with chicken, mushrooms and veggies.
Around 6pm it was time to go out for dinner. None of us wanted to go very far so we ended up going back to the Chinese/Thai place we ate at the first night
here.
Honey Duck
Shrimp Curry
Sweet & Sour Pork -- what can I say, Shirley!
Fish and Veggies in a Black Bean Gravy Sauce
After dinner we stopped by a local supermarket and I bought some more san pellegrino water, crackers and cookies along with a little nasal spray to ensure
that might flight at 2am on Monday morning doesn't involve any sinus issues. Headed back to the hotel to take a rest.
