Got to airport to goto Okinawa without breakfast to at airport got some ice cream and sushi... The perfect breakfast!
Toro - fatty tuna!
Uni - Sea Urchin
Conger Eel
Scallops (I had two orders of this one!)
and some Amberjack
Had a long but uneventful flight to Okinowa (except for a small child who periodically shrieked behind me! Arrrrgh!)
Landed and got to the place I am staying at around 3pm. Walked to the foodie area nearby and
checked out the offerings. Much grilled pork and beef. I didnt' feel like all that much meat
for this late lunch and decided to get two side dishes, which actually made the perfect sized meal for me.
The first was a big dish of local "grape seaweed", a local food that I'd seen on the internet. Just a type of seaweed that comes in little crunch dots like baby grapes... It was served with a vinegar sauce. Eaten straight up or with this sauce they were quite good!
Then I got a dish served with the local "bitter melon" which is cooked with a lot here in Okinawa.
The melon bits, which looked a bit like cut up celery, were quite bitter. But the onions, grilled meat and local style of tofu were all sweet so they all balanced out quite well.
After this meal I went back to the street and found some "Blue Seal" ice-cream -- again a local special. I got the sweet potato variety
And then I found another shop that had a little "pie boat" version of a whipped version of the potato sweet (not ice cream). I ended up buying an extra for my "in room" snack food.
Went back to the hotel around 6pm and took a long nap. By the time I woke up it was nearly 10pm and I decided to just eat the snacks I had brought with me (cookies, chocolate and the above second "pie boat" for dinner.
