Today was my travel day. Honestly I don't like the traveling itself (as in the "getting there" part of it). In order to make this long day as enjoyable as possible, and because right now there is
no direct flight from Kona Hawaii to Tokyo, I decided to stretch out my layover in Honolulu to have lunch with some friends at Legends Seafood Restaurant. They have some really really good
Dim Sum! So I took a quick flight from Kona onto Honolulu where my friends picked me up curbside and off we went to Legends. Here's what we had for lunch!
The meal started with some great shrimp in rice noodles. I'd say there was ham in this dish too,
but I think I'd be referring to Cian's expression when this first dish showed up!
This was a great starter dish, but we quickly added to the table as the carts rolled by.
Here's the leaf wrapped chicken rice:
and the pork and shrimp hash (shu mai) and shrimp dumplings (har gow)...
some baked custard buns in the background too:
There were also some sesame balls filled with sweet black beans:
Also some great shrimp won tons (with another view of the
baked custard buns):
We also got some interesting pork filled pasty -- more of a custardy flakey
baked crust filled with seasoned pork bits:
But wait there's more! No meal is complete without some greens:
And some other items with SOME vegetables in them -- eggplant and shrimp:
And then green bell pepper slices stuffed with shrimp:
And let's not forget the egg rolls:
Or the pot stickers:
And no meal at legends would be complete without some of Legend's
great crispy skinned duck, displayed here by a shocked looking Cian
(there really is no ham in that duck Cian!) and Jacqui:
and here's a closeup of the Duck (without the Ham!):
And finally some custard pastry for dessert -- two kinds
(I'm told with and without egg added?):
Wow! What a great lunch!! Special thanks to my friends the Yings for
driving and feeding me on my way to Asia!
The rest of the day was uneventful from a foodie point of view.
The meals on my flight to Tokyo were fine, but nothing worth posting about.
I didn't clear customs and immigration until 11PM Tokyo time, and then it was
a mad dash to catch the subway to get to Ginza and my hotel around midnight.
I took a very hot shower (I do so love the showers in Japan -- they really get that
HOT means hot!) and went to sleep. Because I'd crossed the international date
line I lost a day -- so I really didn't get to my hotel until February 12th, 2015
(losing February 11th 2015 in the flight time).
Good night!
