Woke up and headed up to "Club Breakfast" with a plan to have a light breakfast there and then walk over to the IMBI Market that I had gotten lost trying to find yesterday.
Turns out it is no where near the IMBI Monorail station, but is only a 10-15 minute walk from my hotel. I confirmed this with the club concierge staff and then had a
breakfast in the hotel to "start". Because I'd talked to the concierge staff they suggested that I try the hotel's version of the coconut rice with dried fish and chili paste.
So I had about 1/2 of that dish -- it was interesting because it was served "fancy" in an almost deconstructed fashion instead of all jumbled together as I'd had at the street
hawker stands in Singapore.
After that I went back to my room and then headed out on the ~15 minute walk to try and find the IMDI Market, which I did!
There were only a few stands -- many were still closed from Chinese New Years, but I found one that had a crispy crepe with an egg inside the fold
as well as a little bit of fresh corn to make it really sweet. They were 3 of 2 RM, which is about 55 cents.
Oh so good!
After eating 3 and walking around I went back and got 3 more!!!
There were a number of other stands, but I didn't feel like a more substantial breakfast -- still took a few photos both of the hawker vendors and into the
actual market zone where fresh fruit, veggies and meats were being sold. The last photo is the "entrance" -- you really had to be a local or work to find
this place!!
Headed back towards my hotel and took some photos of the block of restaurants in-between. There were quite a few -- both 'locals places' as well as
touristy restaurants. The neighborhood was pretty run down by US standards. It really highlighted the inverse bell shaped curve present here in Kuala Lumpur
for me -- lots of super high-end places (like my hotel) surrounded by really run down places.
Back in the hotel uploaded all the above and taking a rest before heading up to the gyn/area for some exercise!
Well, I made it to the pool area and swam about 15 laps but never made it to the workout room as I'd brought my kindle and caught up on some
reading as well as a slight nap. I also sat next to the nice couple from the UK and had a nice conversation with them.
Then I headed back to my room and changed into my street clothing and decided to walk across the street to the "Times Mall" area to
check it out. I was told they had quite the food court, which was true, but again I was more interested with "on the street" food (hawkers or
shophouse food stalls) so I never actually bought anything at the mall. Needless to say it was huge (something like 8 stories) and filled with
all sorts of name brand stores -- just like any mall in the US but with more interesting ethnic food in the basement food court.
So I eventually gave up on finding anything I might want there and walked across the street the other way to get back towards my hotel.
I found two or three curry vendor stalls and decided I'd try a plate of their food for lunch. I also got another wonderful milk tea while I was at it.
I am really addicted to that stuff!
So the lunch plate had rice (mixed with spices and veggie bits), fish (upper section above the hard boiled egg) which was a bit dry but okay,
two kinds of chicken (one stewed in curry on the left and one fried and quite red on the right), hard boiled egg, some sort of thinly sliced and fried
item (maybe potato, but it seemed more yam like), and lamb/mutton (bottom of plate picture). The milk to was, as mentioned above, wonderful!
Headed back to the hotel to pass out for a while. Used the overpass (pedestrian) to avoid trying to cross the road again. Traffic is C-R-A-Z-Y heavy here
(at least from my point of view) and its confusing as the sides of the roads (and where the drivers sit) are backwards from the US, so I keep looking the
wrong way to check for traffic -- don't worry, I also check the "right" way, just not initially -- force of habit! Oh, and I couldn't resist -- more cherubs being
naughty! Don't blink!!!
Will *try* to do a workout later this afternoon!
Well, first a snack upstairs--- Here was the selection, plus they had a few "Jars" of cookies. I had two of the middle pastries, two glasses of juice (mango puree and the green one -- I think it was guava but not sure)
Didn't bother with the sandwiches but did have 2 cookies (not pictured here).
And while I didn't do my workout yet I checked and found the workout room is open until midnight, so I will do something later today -- here's a picture of the room
Headed up to the club level for a "pre dinner" dinner snack and then over to Lot 10 for dinner -- just a "basic" small meal tonight!
At the hotel I had a plate of whole wheat bread with brie cheese, some noodles fried with crawls, a small bowl of a prawn in some type of
cream sauce, some dragon fruit, some papaya, some pineapple, some carrot stick, celery stick and cucumber stick with a black olive dipping sauce,
and a very nice piece of chocolate cake square.
At Lot 10 I had some milk tea, some of the yummy mutton and chicken&egg filled triangles and a big helping of the "strawberry" shaved ice bowl.
The making of the shaved ice is pretty cool -- here is a video
Headed back to the hotel and went to sleep!
