Woke up and updated the web site and then went out for breakfast. Limited choices early in the morning but found a local's restaurant (like a diner) and had a traditional breakfast of miso, salad and potato salad, pickled veggies and some weird beans with cheese sauce and another item. Those last two were supposed to be mixed together but even that way I didn't like them very much. Also came with white rice.
The miso was very different than other's I've had in the past -- thicker and had grilled tofu in it. Also lots of cabbage -- I guess a Korean influence. I did like that.
The salad had some dragon fruit and a nice dressing with lots of little veggies in it -- also quite good.
Walked around looking for additional places to eat but not much was open. Gave up and went back to hotel to rest until around 10am when I'll take off again as they'll want to clean from 10-3 :-)

Okay, so time for some "Blue Seal" ice cream. I did the sweet potato and the "royal milk tea" this time.
Then I walked to a large market street with many many stands and goods.
had a small sample of some stewed pork -- it was actually quite good and not as fatty feeling as it looked.
Also had a local donought -- got the one with some pineapple in it...
Definitely not 'fluffy" or "light"
There was a fish market about 1/2 way down the lane - you could pick you own fish (or meat),
buy it and pay one of the restaurants on the 2nd floor to cook it, but I decided to just let the
restaurant do the shopping and cooking.
Bowl on left had noodles (ramen-dish), fish cake, scallions and "pork". Despite it's look the
pork was super tender -- even the bones were something you could eat.
Bowl on left had rice on the bottom, then lots of shaved egg, topped with grape seaweed and
some fish roe.
Here are some closeups
I wanted to try some other local items so I ordered two small bowls and a side dish of a
local type of tofu that was fermented/marinated. I definitely DID NOT like this!
Here's what the eating zone looked like--
on my way out I saw this walking...
I also stopped at a stand and got some local tempura (veggies and seaweed)
I walked to check out the "pottery street". Probably should have taken photos but it was
not a very interesting zone for me as I wasn't interested in buying anything. But I did see a cat!
Started walking home and was hot so I bought some pineapple on a stick. It was quite sweet and good!
And most of the way home I stopped in a little food bar and tried their gyoza.
They were "okay" but nothing to write home about...
Plus the mandatory dessert stop! ZenZai (basically shaved ice, azuki beans, some balls of
sweet potato mochi and brown sugar). The drink was a homesick one -- Lilliqoi juice (but more
fruit juice that the real stuff I get at home!)
Took a long nap and then headed out to dinner. I walked quite a bit looking for places and finally
settled on a teppenyaki place that seemed to have a big crowd in it. Later on I realized it was
probably a cross from Hawaii to Okinawa -- a little too touristy. But basically a low end version
of BenniHannas of Tokyo.
Meal was a nice curry soup...
And a salad
Followed by steak and lobster with lots of steak fries and veggies...
On my way out I took a picture of the soup cauldron that the soup came out of... it was a real witches cauldron (and quite large -- about a 4 foot diameter!)
Of course I had to stop on the way back to the hotel for some more ice cream!
