Woke up this morning and ate the rest of the egg waffles and the cookies from the "high tea" at the Peninsula Hotel early in the morning.
Around 8am I decided I would go out and try a "traditional" asian breakfast, Congee. Did a little research online and found a
restaurant that was noted for this a few subway stops away from my hotel. Jumped on the MTR, got off at the Fortress Hill Station stop and
found the place without trouble. It was called "Congee Wonderland"
I ordered a congee with squid, pork and scallions in it. It was fairly good (a bit salty at the same time) but not the type of thing that I can
eat a full serving of. I ate about a quarter of it to enjoy the flavor but stopped as I was mostly full.
The order also came with some small rolled up noodles filled with scallions and vermacelli -- quite good as they came with some dark soy
on top.
headed back to the hotel and had one of the Kiwi's I'd purchased at the market as an after (second) breakfast treat
After some work putting the above on the web and a brief rest I decided that I would head over to the "mid-levels" of Central. This is a part of town with a
super long series of escalators/people movers (outdoors) that run one way (down) from early morning until 10am, then they run them the other way (up) after
10am. The other direction is just a set of stairs or ramped streets. The switch based on commuting people -- move coming down in the a.m. and going back up in the p.m.
Looks something like this:
I had to stop and get a pastry on one of the site streets
and then I was hot so i NEEDED some ice cream ("Coffee Arabica")
Walked around quite a bit (I took the escalators UP but had to walk DOWN)Saw a friend near the end of my journey there--
Headed back towards hotel, but stopped at the market to get some additional fizzy water, crackers and fruit for the hotel room.
Not very hungry after the breakfast and snacks I had so I will probably skip lunch and try for an early dinner.
Headed out to dinner - decided to go for more Dim Sum. Walked to the far side of the area I am staying in (about a mile) and
went to "Dim Dim Sum", which is a highly rated Dim Sum place I"d found in a number of different web site reviews that has a number
of stores throughout the Hong Kong Area.
I ordered, har gow, peppers stuffed with seafood, truffle topped xiao long bau and a poached pear dessert dish.

After dinner I walked some more to track down a Hong Kong egg waffle shop called Mammy's Pancakes that got a great write up. I had to circle the block a few times
before finding it as I was thinking it was an actual "sit down" place. Turns out it is a tiny tiny kitchen with a porch you step up onto and order.
Somewhere between a hawker stand and a garage :-) Worked for me though!
They had a large selection of possible flavors, so I picked a green-tea and chocolate one as well as a hazelnut and sweet potato version.
Here is a video of them making some of these (all were "made to order").
and here is the finished product once I got it back to my hotel room (I did eat some on the way while walking too!)
called it a night!
